Ephemeris

Astronomers record their celestial observations in tables called ephemerides. The ephemeris for last week included several entries that caught the interest of the general public, mostly because of their near-synchrony: Sol passed the
polar axis, marking the beginning of winter; Luna aligned with Earth and Sol, resulting in a full moon; and this alignment was sufficiently precise that Earth's shadow of the light from Sol caused a lunar eclipse. Just a coincidence,
but such a thing won't happen again until 2094. Once upon a time, a coincidence in the heavens was thought to signal a momentous
event in the affairs of men. And nobody cared about the affairs of women, unless they were bothering men. Of course we know better now.
Another entry in last week's ephemeris was noted with some ecstasy among the cognoscenti: Evan Fox Hiniker reached escape velocity and established his own solar orbit, about 10 hours before the aforementioned full moon. Coincidence?
